I have been wondering, as this day winds down, why so many people are filled with sarcasm whenever an athlete talks about faith in Christ.

Michael Vick, the quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons, who admitted to sponsoring and participating in illegal dog fights, briefly noted that all of his troubles have led him to Jesus Christ.

His statement got me to thinking about how I came to know Jesus Christ. Yes, it was in a church service like many I had attended for many Sundays and for many years. However, on this one particular Sunday, I came to Jesus because I feared going to hell. Yep, that was the main reason I did it. It was just out of plain old stark fear.

How many people do you know that became Christians because everything in their lives were perfect? How many? I thought so! None!

Without boring you with lots of Scriptures, I believe that this is exactly how God wants us to come to Him. Without His presence, our life is filled with hopelessness, despair, fear and emptiness. Yes emptiness, even when you think that you've got it made.

Jesus even said, "Come unto me you that have a heavy burden and I will give you rest."

So, while the cynic may be laughing that another athlete may be professing Christ, I, who know how Jesus has changed my life and my destiny, pray that folks like Michael Vick, will truly find real peace from the giver of eternal life.

If you are looking for real joy while living in this world, give yourself to the one who loves you without condition and let Him refresh you. Starting this very instant.
